Hi, Hello!
I'm Shay Gish, a filmmaker and recent graduate of the University of Missouri's film program. I'm a writer and director drawn to stories about queerness, femininity, and capturing the complicated feelings that shape who we become.
My work lives somewhere between the intimate and the surreal. In my latest work, Wants & Needs (2026), I explore the trials of self-acceptance and rejection of queerness through the metaphor of zombication. What intrigues me most about storytelling is in the methods we choose to create and consume media. In narrative filmmaking, I hope to continue experimenting with the visual language of film, while pushing character and atmosphere to create store that feels personal even if they bend reality and the mundane. I'm currently in post-production for my senior thesis short film, Wane (2027), which explores the themes of folklore, family, and grief.
Alongside my creative work, I’ve gained experience across film production, live events, and commercial media. From directing and writing my own short films to working in production, and managing audiovisual equipment and events, I’ve learned to approach filmmaking from both in the creative and practical sense.
